This episode is filled with stories from Tennessee’s Appalachian Mountains, including Jonesborough, the oldest town in Tennessee. Featured are tales about fair play in sports and life, including the struggles of a left handed student who was less than a stellar athlete, a mother whose drive to win in a game of soccer might just get her in trouble with her son, and an epic game of hide and seek gone wrong. These stories also celebrate Black History Month and the rich, African American heritage of our region. There are true stories from the only black family living in Erwin, TN, in the 1940s, stories about black and white students sneaking into the segregated school together after hours to play a pickup game of basketball because they couldn’t play during the school day, and the history of a special statue at the Jonesborough Visitors’ Center. True stories from the Southern Appalachian region.
