StoryTown Radio

Musical Traditions

Episode Summary

Kicking off the 10th season of Storytown, the cast explores stories and musical traditions of East Tennessee, telling the story of Jonesborough’s own fabulous cornet player, Mayor J.T. Whitlock. Discover how music defines moments in history with stories of World War II, the early Appalachian frontier, the Bristol Sessions and the birthplace of country music, the connection of the bluegrass banjo to West African shores, and so many more musical influences that continue to shape East Tennessee's culture. Finn the dog makes another return to StoryTown, and just wants to join in on some singing. Musical guests join the cast this month, as Roxanne performs an original piece on the dulcimer, and Ian shares a ballad from his home in Claiborne County, TN. Musical guests Freddie Vanderford and Brandon Turner also return for some Piedmont Blues from Buffalo, South Carolina.
